The Voice : Former Pop stars and reality show rejects

So, have you heard these Voices before? Parade of former stars and reality show rejects hit our screens

It may be a brand new talent show, but viewers of The Voice can be forgiven for thinking they have seen some of the acts before.
In fact, the BBC’s much-hyped Saturday night series appears to be a parade of former stars and reality show rejects.
Five of the 11 contestants in tonight’s episode have already had their shot at stardom – including a Brit award winner.
Former Brit Award winner Denise Pearson
Former 5ive singer Sean Conlon
Old faces: Brit Award winner Denise Pearson, who was a one of five siblings in the 80s band Five Star, and former 5ive boyband member Sean Conlon, have both appeared on the voice
Denise Pearson, 43, first found fame with Five Star, whose hits included Rain or Shine, System Addict and The Slightest Touch.
The five siblings from Essex had a number-one album – the million-selling Silk and Steel – and were named Best British Group at the 1987 Brit Awards.

One TV insider said: ‘If they are looking for new talent then it does seem a bit odd they are going for people that have already been stars. It seems a bit desperate.
‘If you are giving Denise Pearson a platform, what is the point of the show?’

Miss Pearson’s appearance follows that of Sean Conlon in The Voice’s first episode. Conlon, 30, was previously in boy band 5ive, who had three number-one singles and four top-ten albums at the turn of the millennium.
Last week’s show also included Aundrea Nyle, 36, who has been a backing singer for stars including P Diddy, and Jessica Hammond, 17, who had previously auditioned twice for the X Factor.
Toni Warne, 34, who went through to the next round after singing Leave Right Now, won another reality show, Opportunity Knocks, three times in the 1980s.
She released her first single, a cover of the Michael Jackson hit Ben, at the age of nine after appearing on the show, then fronted by Bob Monkhouse. When she reached her twenties, alopecia left her with no hair and little confidence – but the show’s judges were charmed by her performance of a song made famous by another reality show winner, Will Young.

Tonight’s contestants include Kerry Ellis, a West End musical star who has appeared in Wicked and My Fair Lady. She has also been a mentor on musical-based BBC talent shows Over The Rainbow and I’d Do Anything.
The episode will feature an array of failed X Factor contestants, too. Vince Kidd, 22, was part of boy band Futureproof, who got to the final 12 of the ITV show in 2007.
The group was made up of contestants who had failed to make the grade as solo performers.
Barbara Bryceland, 47, made it to the bootcamp stage of the X Factor in the same year. Heshima Thompson, 25, had two goes at the ITV talent show, in 2009 and 2011. A former backing singer for Amy Winehouse, he has also appeared in Spooks, The Bill, Prime Suspect and EastEnders spin-off E20.
Decision-makers: The Voice judges Tom Jones, Jessie J, Danny O'Donoghue and Will.I.Am

One hopeful that won’t be shown tonight is Alison Jiear, after her audition was edited out. The 47-year-old is a former backing singer for Sir Tom Jones – one of The Voice’s four judges.
A BBC spokesman said: ‘The Voice is purely about talent, not image, history or background.
‘The only criteria for entrants is that they must not be under a current recording contract.’
The Voice, an import from the U.S. that is said to be costing the BBC £22million, secured 2.4million more viewers than Britain’s Got Talent in the 20 minutes that the shows overlapped for last weekend – but BGT’s average rating of 9.4million beat The Voice’s 8.4million.

Dance of my life: Soprano Katherine Jenkins reveals how she is counting on U.S. Strictly to rebuild her confidence following split from fiance

Dance of my life: Soprano Katherine Jenkins reveals how she is counting on U.S. Strictly to rebuild her confidence following split from fiance

As a teenager she lost her beloved father. As a student she was the victim of an attempted rape. In her 20s she became the focus of intense scrutiny after admitting taking cocaine and ecstasy. And last year she revealed she’d been bullied and harassed by an online stalker.
But for the 31-year-old mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins, the very public end of her engagement to former Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones was the ‘toughest few weeks of my life’.
Katherine was meant to be preparing for her fairy-tale wedding right now. Instead, she is sitting in a Hollywood dance studio, where she spends hours on end every day training with a man who she met just a month ago in order to compete on America’s Dancing With The Stars.

Spring in her step: Katherine is hoping her new project will help her move on
Spring in her step: Katherine is hoping her new project will help her move on
As I join her before another rigorous training session begins, Katherine, wearing black tights, looks visibly thinner. ‘I’ve lost a stone-and-a-half,’ she admits. The stress? ‘Yes,’ she replies quietly, already close to tears.
Is she coping emotionally? ‘I’m seeing myself still as mending,’ she answers. ‘I’m getting there. I feel like I’ve found something that’s making me smile and laugh again, and that’s really nice. This has come at the right time.’

This is Katherine’s first interview since the split that shocked showbiz and it quickly becomes apparent she’s far from over it.
Katherine and Gethin were Wales’s most glamorous couple — she the angelic-voiced beauty with a £15 million fortune, he the handsome primetime TV star.
They met in 2005 when she went on the BBC’s Blue Peter which he was hosting. They became a couple in 2007 after he was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing and she made a singing appearance on the show. In February 2011 Gethin presented her with a £10,000 diamond engagement ring as he proposed during a romantic Mexican holiday. As recently as last November, Katherine said she was looking forward to taking a break from the spotlight to start a family.

As a result, the pair’s New Year’s Eve announcement, made through coordinated messages on their Twitter profiles, that they were ending their four-year relationship came as a bombshell.
Two months later she said she would be relocating to LA to take part in Dancing With The Stars, one of America’s most popular TV series watched by 20 million viewers every week. Katherine would be the only British contestant, competing against big names like 67-year-old singing legend Gladys Knight and former Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova.

Friends of her former fiancé whispered the move was an illustration of how the singer would put her desire to crack the notoriously difficult American market before anything else.

Cruelly, friends of her former fiancé whispered the move was an illustration of how the singer would put her desire to crack the notoriously difficult American market before anything else.
Katherine flatly denies those claims, insisting that producers approached her only in February, after the split was announced. Struggling with her new single life while on tour, she decided learning to dance would give her a focus.
‘My gut feeling was: “I feel like this is the right time in my life to do this.” This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity had come to me,’ she recalls. At short notice, Katherine’s management had to clear her diary for three months, including delaying recording her next album. But she didn’t want it to look like running away from personal problems.
Happier times: With former fiance, TV presenter Gethin Jones

She insists: ‘It’s just that it was something I’d always wanted to do and now seems the right time.’
The Neath-born singer has agreed with Gethin not to discuss the circumstances of the breakdown of the relationship, but she has clearly struggled with the decision to split.
I tell her she finally looked happy again after performing her first dance on the show last week. ‘I definitely think . . .’ Katherine falters.
‘Oh, I’m silly,’ she chokes, as her eyes well up and tears start flowing down her porcelain cheeks. ‘I think anybody knows if you’re going through something like this how hard it is. You need other things to focus on to make you happy again.’
Katherine’s radiographer mother Susan has flown in this week to provide moral support and ‘try to make me eat properly’.

‘I’m burning so much energy now that it’s hard to put the weight back on. But I like to be curvy so I’m trying not to lose any more,’ she sighs. ‘But I do want to be healthy, too — there are so many skimpy costumes to wear. That scares me!’
At that moment, Mark Ballas —America’s equivalent of Strictly’s Brendan Cole — bounds into the room. The British-born professional dancer has become a heartthrob thanks to his raunchy routines with celebrities as diverse as Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol and American socialite Kim Kardashian.
He’s made the final six times and won twice, and is determined to win with Katherine, whom he affectionately calls ‘the Welsh wiggler’.

The bond between the rather tactile pair is evident. Katherine runs up to greet him with a hug. But she is insistent their relationship is purely one of friendship. ‘Come on, I’m very newly single,’ she scolds. ‘I would not be rushing into anything like that. Besides, he has a girlfriend.’
Speculation about their relationship began after Mark was spotted intimately holding on to Katherine’s leg after a night out at London’s Brompton Club at the start of the month.
‘It’s insane,’ Katherine argues. ‘We had met not even 12 hours earlier that day. I had arranged a dinner for some of his friends who live in London and some of my friends. It was a get-to-know-you thing. We got into the cab and he put his hand on my knee to ask if I was OK. That was it! And all of a sudden it was: “They’re getting married!” ’
She was nervous when they first met. ‘Having been a fan of the show, I know you can absolutely see it if the couples don’t get on. I was hoping we clicked, and we did. He’s totally on my wavelength.’
There are many examples of Strictly partnerships resulting in romantic affairs, often sparked by the physical intensity of dancing together for so long each day.
‘Yes, it is intimate,’ Katherine concedes. He spends most of the time holding on to your body, doesn’t he? ‘All the time, yes. I think that’s why we are quite affectionate with each other in terms of things like him putting his hand on my knee. It’s nothing compared to when we are at this studio and have to really move together.’
There have also been whispers about Katherine’s friendship with Derek Hough, the former boyfriend of singer Cheryl Cole, who is another professional dancer on the show.
The pair are also clearly close and Katherine is comfortable being physically affectionate with him and engaging in playful banter between breaks in training. However, she says they are only ‘good friends’.
‘There’s a group of us, including Derek, who are in a similar age bracket and will go out most nights after training,’ she explains.
I suggest that now she’s single and on a favourite TV show, there must be plenty of interest from American men. ‘A little bit,’ she purrs. Then, feigning horror: ‘They’re much more forward.

‘Mark and Derek were trying to explain how the dating culture here is different. You can date a few different people at the same time! But I’m happy to have the distraction of dancing. Dating isn’t going to happen.’
She is terrified about some of the provocative moves she is going to have to do in her jive routine. ‘I’m having a massive panic — Mark wants me to raunch it up,’ she cackles. ‘Usually I stand in one place in front of an orchestra. I’m not used to shaking my bits, let alone shaking my bits for America. It’s daunting.’
Producers have provided Katherine with an apartment in the same Hollywood block where show judges Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli live while in Los Angeles. But she has been forced to keep her distance from them despite knowing them well. ‘It’s weird. I know them because . . .’ she pauses and takes a deep breath, ‘. . . Gethin was a contestant on Strictly.
In good shape: Katherine has lost a stone in preparation for the show

‘But it’s set up here so I only see them on the show when they are giving their comments on my performance. I don’t socialise with them. I love Bruno especially, but it’s best for the competition if it’s all kept separate. I’d worry if people thought they were giving me special treatment.’
It also frustrates her that she continues to have a reputation for being demanding. ‘The diva tag just won’t go away,’ she says exasperatedly. ‘I think that’s because people want me to be like that. It makes it more interesting if I have thrown a phone at somebody or a water bottle. Sadly that’s just not me.’
After training she takes me on a tour of the rehearsal facilities where she spends her days. While Strictly contestants have to perform in pokey rooms all over London, Dancing With The Stars has purpose-built facilities complete with six training studios and a suite for spray tanning.
As we walk into the kitchen, the show’s real diva, Gladys Knight, is nibbling on a chocolate cupcake. ‘Have one,’ she demands, pushing the plate towards Katherine. ‘You need the energy.’ Naturally, Katherine declines. ‘Because we’re all under one roof, it’s a bit like being at school. I love it,’ Katherine says of the set-up. ‘As a solo artist, I’m so used to being alone. Now I’m in a team of people who I love.’
She has her own cameraman who films every moment — ‘The only time they don’t is when I go to the toilet!’
After her first run-through of the jive (she’ll have done it 30 times by the end of the day) she twists her ankle and yelps in pain. Mark cuddles her and assures her she is OK.
After two years of tough slog, the American media are finally showing interest in Katherine. Photographers wait outside the studio.
‘It’s completely different,’ she says. ‘When I came here before to make an album for three months, I was under the radar. I could walk around and never be photographed.’
But, contrary to reports, she has no plans to relocate to America permanently. She has retained the £4.7 million eight-bedroom mansion in Richmond, South-West London, where she lived with Gethin.
‘I really see myself as a homegirl. Wales is my first home. London is my second home — I’ve been there 14 years now. No matter what does happen here, I will always live in the UK. I know that.’ But a Hollywood film career might beckon. ‘After doing Doctor Who, I’m open-minded to doing more acting’ she reveals. ‘Part of the reason you do a show like this is because it creates other opportunities you haven’t had before.’

The only downside of the increased attention is more security risks for the singer who has been the target of stalkers back in the UK.
It’s not surprising she is cautious. On her tour in February, a lone male fan evaded security to end up alone in her dressing room as she prepared for a performance in Bournemouth. ‘It was the craziest thing ever — I couldn’t believe it,’ she exclaims. ‘I don’t know how it happened. He got past all the security and walked straight in.
‘I didn’t know what that man was capable of, so I thought I’d be polite and defuse the situation. Thankfully, it worked.’
On her return to the UK, Katherine is due to make two major public appearances.
She is ‘in talks’ to perform at a ‘big occasion’ surrounding the London Olympics, although it’s unlikely to be at either the opening or closing ceremony. ‘I’m told they’re going to be a pop and rock celebration with no classical music,’ she says.
She’s also accepted a request from Buckingham Palace to sing the national anthem for the Queen at the Epsom Derby for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. ‘I will never get used to being invited to sing for her,’ she smiles.
Katherine is an admirer of the Royal Family and knows both young Princes, who she says are ‘doing an amazing job’.
I remind her how she once said Prince Harry was more handsome than Prince William. ‘Oh my God! I didn’t remember I said that,’ she says squirming.
‘You’re both single now,’ I joke.
‘Stop the matchmaking! Look how uncomfortable I’m getting,’ she giggles.
Two days later and Katherine is squirming again. She’s about to perform on live TV from the legendary CBS lot in Hollywood. There is Colosseum-style seating and the 900-strong audience is much more vocal than their British equivalent, whooping and hollering. It’s like Strictly on steroids.
Backstage, as she waits to be called, Katherine, wearing a figure-hugging sequined dress, is trembling. ‘As a singer, I am so calm. I have never been this nervous, ever. A few people suggested I should have a shot of tequila but I couldn’t do that.’
I take my seat next to her mum Susan and auntie Louise Weaver, who have brought Welsh flags to wave.
The quality of dancing is much higher than on Strictly, especially given it is only week two. But when she takes to the floor, Katherine makes the other celebrities look like amateurs.
She gets two nines and an eight as Bruno declares: ‘The blonde bombshell is unleashed!’ He tells me later he wanted to give her a ten, but felt it was too early in the competition. For the second week in a row Katherine is at the top of the leader board. But after the show, she is modest.
‘I was in such a panic beforehand. I’m really hard on myself. I thought I’d forgotten my routine.’
She adds: ‘The jive was going to the extreme. I’m in this tiny tassled dress, shaking it about, and my mum’s in the front row. Oh my God!’
For the last two hours, it is clear Katherine has forgotten about the trials and tribulations of the past three months. ‘When the music starts and I get into it. I love it,’ she says euphorically.
‘When I dance, I forget everything else and just feel completely happy. I need that at the moment.’

This is our chance to shine, claims Ennis as home Olympics edges closer

British athletes have to make the most of being the stars of a home Olympics this summer, according to heptathlete Jessica Ennis.
As the London Games draw ever closer, the media spotlight has started to be turned up on those who will be representing Great Britain in London.
The negative consequences have already been seen, with diver Tom Daley having had to defend himself over accusations that he has taken on too many commitments away from the pool.

Ennis, though, herself one of the unofficial faces of the Games owing to her huge popularity with the public, does not see a problem with competitors enjoying their time in the sun, so long as their training still comes first.
Speaking at an event to promote Powerade's 'On Your Marks' competition, which gives winners the chance to run at the Olympic Stadium on May 3, she said: 'I think it's a unique situation this year.
'Having a home Olympics is a great thing to have and as an athlete you have to make the most of these opportunities because they're once-in-a-lifetime.

'But, at the same time, we are athletes and first and foremost we want to win as many medals as possible and be the best we can be. We need to get that balance, which I think the athletes are getting.
'As long as you're training and not missing sessions, you can do your sponsorship requirements, but just make sure you're doing the work first.'
Ennis has been giving tips to potential competition winners on how to look good in the blocks - entrants have to photograph themselves ready to start a race in a bid to win - and she knows a fast start is going to be vital in London.
Over the past seven months she has been dethroned as world champion and world indoor champion, losing her titles to her main rivals Tatyana Chernova and Nataliya Dobrynska.
Poor performances in the javelin and the long jump have proven to be her downfall, but she insists there is no need to overhaul her training programme in a bid to rectify the problems.
'You don't want to change too many things,' she said.
'You have to work on slightly different things but you don't want to change your whole training programme. You have to believe that it's the right thing you're doing and keep doing it.

'My coach Toni Minichiello always gets input from other coaches as well to further his knowledge and help in any way and that's something we've always done. It's just about believing in what I'm doing, getting the sessions done, making sure they're quality and becoming consistent.'

Powerade, who will be hydrating the athletes at the London 2012 Olympic Games, are giving a select group of people the chance to set their Personal Best at the London 2012 Olympic Stadium. To be in with a chance of winning this fantastic experience, people just need to tweet a photo of themselves in their best "On Your Marks" pose to @PoweradeGB, including the hashtag #onyourmarks.

Michelle Dockery: In talks to appear in the spy thriller Restless

Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery is in talks to star with Hayley Atwell and, possibly, Charlotte Rampling in a nail-biting spy thriller.
Michelle, who plays the soon-to-be- married Lady Mary Crawley in Julian Fellowes’s ITV phenomenon, is rumoured to be in line to play the daughter of Hayley and Charlotte in William Boyd’s adaptation of his award-winning novel Restless.
Hayley and Charlotte would play the same character - Eva Delectorskaya - at different ages. Eva’s a Paris-based Russian emigree who is emotionally manipulated by silken schemer Lucas Romer (who may be played by Rufus Sewell) into joining a unit of British Intelligence at the outbreak of World War II.
Eva Delectorskaya may be her real name but, during the war years — when she’ll be played by Hayley — she’ll be known by a host of aliases.
However, when Boyd’s story scoots forward to 1976, Eva has become Sally Gilmartin (the role Charlotte is likely to play), a 66-year-old, thoroughly respectable English grandmother living quietly in a remote Oxfordshire village.
Crucially, though, she hasn’t lost her espionage skills. Sally (or Eva, if you prefer), breaks her code of silence and tells her daughter Ruth (the part rumoured for Michelle) what she did in the war, and how she was caught in a web of duplicity and betrayal.
Mother comes out of the cold and joins forces with her daughter to embark on a deadly assignment.
Edward Hall, artistic director of Hampstead Theatre, has been hired by producer Hilary Bevan Jones and Endor Productions to direct the two-part film drama, which will shoot on location later in the year.

Those legs go on and on! Alesha Dixon parades her perfect pins as she steps out in bright summery skirt and jacket

Ever since she signed up to be a new judge on Britain's Got Talent, Alesha Dixon has upped her game in the style stakes.
And now that the sun is shining it appears the singer's fashion credentials are rocketing.
The former Strictly Come Dancing judge stepped out in a stylish summery outfit earlier today as she showed off her endless legs.

She opted for a yellow Dianne Von Furstenberg mini-skirt, which she matched with a black lace blouse with white collar detailing from French Connection.

The 33-year-old covered her modesty as she wore a nude camisole underneath the lace.
And she brightened the ensemble up even more as she finished it off with a bright blue tailored Warehouse jacket.

Alesha looked healthy and happy as she emerged from the London Studios to film a slot on ITV1's This Morning.
And despite his wife Ruth Langsford sitting beside him, presenter Eamonn Holmes couldn't help but delight at the sight of the star's stunning pins.
He was so in awe of her legs he asked her how long they were.

The former Mis-Teeq singer appeared on the show to promote BGT and was obviously happy with how it went as she grinned widely upon exiting the studios.
She told Eamonn and Ruth about how she is as a judge on the show: 'I think we’re all quite strict actually, but in a nice way…generally all of us are quite nice. But if somebody is bad, you have to be a little bit more assertive with them don’t you?”
She added, "I think you have to use your gut instinct. If somebody walks out in front of you – if it’s a young child for example, you’re a little bit more sensitive with them.
'If it’s somebody who comes out and they’re quite arrogant and big-headed, then you are a little bit more assertive with them. So you just have to play off the person that’s in front of you and gauge it that way.'

Alesha has only just started judging the ITV show after being poached from BBC's Strictly by Simon Cowell to sit alongside Amanda Holden and David Walliams and himself.
And she is pleased she can now come out of her shell more for the new format.
She told the presenters how different it is to judge on BGT compared to Strictly Come Dancing: 'Massively, just purely for the fact that I'm not judging celebrities and the fact that Strictly is purely about Ballroom and Latin – and that’s more disciplined in that area. And this is just a wide variety of entertainment, and you never know who is going to walk through the door – and that’s captures the beauty of the show.'
The singer has already bonded with fellow female judge Amanda Holden, who had a brief break when she gave birth during the audition stages.
And Alesha insisted that their friendship is genuine.
She added: 'She likes me, we get on so well. We’ve both got filthy laughs. She’s got a great sense of humour, and the banter on the panel has been brilliant.

Last Updated: 30th March 2012

LACEY Turner has got a magic new role – as a witch.

The former EastEnder has been cast in ITV2's new supernatural drama Switch, about a group of four young women living in London, who just happen be witches.

It's not the first spooky role the 24-year-old has taken on since leaving Walford – where she played Stacey Branning for six years – in 2010.
Lacey also starred in BBC3's Being Human and also played the Bride of Frankenstein in a special live event from Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds.
In Switch, the award-winning actress is teaming up with The Inbetweeners' Hannah Tointon, another former EastEnder Nina Toussaint-White and Black Mirror's Phoebe Fox.

Lacey will play "immaculately dressed" careerist Stella, while Tointon is the "restless and spontaneous" Hannah, Toussaint-White is "sexy and stylish" fashionista Jude and Fox is the group's "moral compass" Jade.
As the four 'Witches of Camden', the girls must deal with the ordinary challenges of life in modern London, as well as facing their sworn enemies the 'Witches of Kensington.'
Produced by Being Human's Philip Trethowan and written by Chloe Moss (Prisoners' Wives) and Tim Price (Secret Diary of a Call Girl), the six-part series will start filming in London, Cardiff and Bristol next month.
ITV spokeswoman Laura Mackie said: "Switch is a contemporary series about friendship with a spell-binding twist.
"Chloe and Tim have created four fun-loving, free-spirited characters and we're delighted with the direction the series takes."

Leotards and catsuits are fast becoming Jessie J's uniform as her star continues to rise.
And the singer ensured she stood out with another slinky number that she'd slithered into for a private gig in London last night.
The 24-year-old's latest catsuit looked like it was attached to her with its nude/gold colour.

And the purple patterning made it look like snake skin as she bared her midriff with the cropped cut.

Jessie, real name Jessica Cornish, also debuted a new hair do with a two tone wig.
The star opted for a chunky black look with blonde tips for her outing.
And she stood out even more as she left the Lounge Lovers venue in Shoreditch with her platform shoes which were emblazoned with studs and spikes.

The Do It Like A Dude hitmaker had performed for a small crowd at the east London bar to help launch the new GlacEau vitaminwater range i-Create - the official flavour of the 2012 Olympic Games.
And she helped to promote the drink even further, after she posted a picture of herself carrying a bottle of the drink on her Twitter page.

Nobody's looking at your eyes! Kim Kardashian experiments with contacts... but distracts with her VERY ample cleavage

She's constantly changing up her look by experimenting with different fashion choices, accessories and hairstyles.
And earlier this week Kim Kardashian decided to go for a new appearance by trying out green contact lenses - brightening her usually dark brown irises.
However, there was one big reason Kim's fans were slightly distracted when she posted the shot on her Twitter page - namely the very low-cut top she was wearing which highlighted her ample cleavage.

In the picture, Kim is seen with her glossy black hair straightened around her shoulders, with a blunt fringe framing her face.
While little of her outfit can be seen, it can just be made out that Kim is wearing a curve-enhancing black corset and danging necklace, both of which draw attention to her already prominent chest.
But Kim made no reference to her curves as she posed the picture, with the caption: 'What I would look light with light eyes.'
Slimming down: Despite being proud of her feminine assets, Kim said she wanted to get in shape now she's a single woman and debuted her thinner figure earlier this week after losing 6lbs in 7 days

Kim has previously spoken about her curvy physique, insisting that she is proud of her womanly figure.
She told Britain's Cosmopolitan magazine last year: 'My sister Kourtney would always make fun of me for having bigger boobs than she did.
'When you’re young, it’s embarrassing. Your body is changing and it’s scary. Then when I was 15, I realised it was great. I’ve never wished for smaller boobs since.'
However, despite being proud of her feminine assets, Kim debuted a slimmer look earlier this week, when she revealed that she has lost an astonishing 6lbs in just 7 days.
She said: 'I'm on a mission. I figure, I'm single. Now is the best time to get in shape!'

Naomie Harris: I play a very ambitious Bondgirl in Skyfall

I play a very ambitious Bondgirl in Skyfall: Naomie Harris

Published: Tuesday, Mar 27, 2012, 12:51 IST

Naomie Harris

Bondgirls are known for their beauty and glamour but actress Naomie Harris, who plays field agent Eve in 23rd 007 movie Skyfall opposite Daniel Craig, promises to bring "brains and ambition" too to the role.

"It is one dimensional when Bondgirls are just glamorous and beautiful. As Bond becomes more human, women in his life have to evolve to match this change.

"They need to have more potential for a man like James Bond to fall in love with them. He will not be attracted to a woman who is merely beautiful. They have to be equal to Bond," Harris told PTI in a telephonic interview from Los Angeles.

In the past few Bond films actresses like Halle Berry, Eva Green, Olga Kurylenko and Gemma Arterton have brought more edge to the character and Harris is happy to be part of this growing tradition.

"I love playing strong, independent women onscreen and that's what drew me to the character of field agent Eve. She is very capable, intelligent and ambitious. She wants to be seen as the new Bond and that's what she is aiming for and I love that ambition in her," says Harris.

Skyfall, which was delayed for almost two years after MGM faced financial trouble, will be released by Sony Pictures Entertainment in India on November 2 this year. It is currently being filmed in different parts of the world.

Craig and Judi Dench are returning as Bond and M while Oscar-winner Javier Bardem plays the main antagonist. Harris and French actress Berenice Marlohe help Bond in his mission to unravel another mystery in the Sam Mendes directed film.

35-year-old Harris, best known for her roles in Miami Vice, 28 Days Later and Pirates of the Caribbean series, says it was difficult not to get star-struck while working with the famous actors.

"It was very intimidating during the first few days. Daniel, Judi Dench, Sam Mendes and Javier Bardem they all are the actors that I admire. They are top of their game. I had to pinch myself to remain true to my role. I was totally star-struck," says Harris.

The actress believes that director Mendes, known for his films like American Beauty and Revolutionary Road, would add a lot of humour and layers to the story.

"Sam (Mendes) wants to add much more humour to the movie. He is fundamentally known for his relationship stories and that will reflect in this film too. He wants the audience to engage and relate with Bond more. It is going to be fantastic Bond movie. The stakes are bigger and better this time."

The actress, who grew up watching Bond films, says she never imagined that she would be a part of the secret world of the spy series.

"I have been a huge fan of Bond movies. I don't know anyone who isn't. They are full of glamour, action and humour. It was part of my growing up years. I am working with some of the greatest actors of my time. I love the idea of entering the secret world of MI6," she says.

It was not a cakewalk for Harris to fit in the character as she trained hard for close to two months before filming. Harris says it was her most demanding role physically.

"I started training from October. I am off to Turkey now for more training. I learnt to fire machine gun for Miami Vice but most of the action that I did in the past was to get in shape. In this film I will be doing most of the stunts that I learnt during my training. I have never trained this hard for any movie."

Harris is hugely impressed with the dedication of her famous co-star Craig.

"He is fantastic, has great sense of humour but he is very serious at the same time. He trains for two hours after the shoot. He is very dedicated but also knows how to laugh at himself."
