'I feel like you could teach me something': Jessie J is blown away by singer who suffers from alopecia as The Voice begins

Before The Voice launched, the BBC promised that it would be a show based entirely on talent - and they weren't lying.

The show's launch saw three of four coaches, Jessie J, Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue fight over a wannabe singer who suffers from alopecia.

Toni Warne, 34, revealed that she had lost confidence in herself as a performer when all of her hair fell out when she was 21, but tonight that changed.



The bank worker was overwhelmed when the foursome told her they were blown away with her performance.

Singing Leave Right Now, Toni took to the stage without her headscarf on, saying: 'I'm looking forward to walking on stage and being me.'

Price Tag singer, Jessie J, was the first coach to press her button, and later told Toni how impressed she was with her.

'Your tone is so old school that I feel like you could teach me something,' she said.







The Script frontman Danny, was the next coach to spin around in his chair and fought for Toni to be on his team.

But the young pair also had legendary singer Tom Jones to compete with as he too swung around and told her: 'You're what I call a real singer, you sung fantastic.'

It was clear to see that Toni hadn't been expecting such a response as she told the famous four: 'I'm overwhelmed.'

But when the difficult decision had to be made, she decided to pick Jessie, before running backstage and bursting into tears.



J Marie Cooper also felt emotional as she performed on the show after revealing that her mother had passed away four years ago.

'Her death has given me the drive to go for my career,' the 27-year-old said.

After belting out Jessie's hit song Mama Knows Best, the redhead made the tough decision to be mentored by will.i.am despite Jessie fighting for her.



'This is probably going to surprise people but I'm going to go with will because he turned around first,' she said.

Another female who found it rather hard to choose her mentor was 17-year-old Jessica Hammond.

The student revealed that songwriting had always been a way out for her, saying: 'In my bedroom I'm a superstar.

Singing a cover of Jessie's Price Tag, Jessica played her guitar on stage and one by one, the coaches pressed their buttons - including Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am.







'I would like to work with you,' he told the teenager. 'We need to make an album that will be big everywhere.'

The star even made his way up to the stage to hold Jessica's guitar for her while she received her comments, telling her: 'I'll be your roadie as well as your manager.'

However, Jessica also decided to choose Jessie as her coach, telling will.i.am: 'It's not number one hits that matter to me, it's getting my message across that counts.'



Another contestant who had the coaches fighting over him was 22-year-old Ben Kelly.

The Northern Irish singer revealed that he had spent a lot of time putting videos of himself singing on YouTube, was ready to try and 'prove to myself and everyone that I am doing the right thing.'

As he took to the stage wearing a tweed blazer and a red bow tie, Ben instantly impressed Danny and will.i.am as he began singing a rendition of Elton John's Rocket Man.

However, it wasn't long until Jessie had pressed her button - using her face - and Tom quickly followed her.



'You are out of the box, I know a star when I see him,' Danny told Ben when he had finished performing.

However, his fellow coaches were quick to try and persuade Ben that he should pick them.

'Where I come from I'm known as The Voice, and this show is called The Voice, so you come on my team and we can win this,' Tom told him.



But despite their best efforts to sway Ben, the singer couldn't resist picking the youngest coach to mentor him.

'The boys are great but I think this girl's for me,' he said, pointing his finger at Jessie.

Another male singer that a couple of the coaches found themselves fighting for was 28-year-old Adam Issac.

The indie guitarist declared that he had been 'living and breathing music for the last ten years,' but was feeling rather nervous about auditioning.



As he took to the stage and began singing a cover of Stereophonics' hit Maybe Tomorrow, Welsh star Tom was the first to turn around.

'I have sang with a lot of people, and I need somebody with a strong voice like you,' he told Adam.

However, will.i.am was keen to work with him too, saying: 'You have a great voice, you remind me of cats I hang out with at home.'



It was clear to see that it wasn't easy for Adam to choose, as he told them: 'This is one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make, but I'd like to go with the legendary Tom Jones.'

Two other contestants that made it through to Tom's group of ten were 20-year-old Samuel Buttery and former backing singer Aundrea Nyle.

Both singers were more than chuffed to have been picked by the 71-year-old star and expressed their excitement at working with him.







'I don't think my voice matches me, but I've been singing Tom's songs since I was little,' Samuel said, while Aundrea danced around on the stage grinning from ear-to-ear.

Another guitarist who impressed the coaches was Max Milner - who arrived at the auditions with his girlfriend Twinnielee Moore, who had also entered the competition.

Singing a combination of two songs, the only judge that didn't press their button during Max's performance was Tom.



Jessie decided to press hers with her foot and later told Max: 'I think you're someone very special, what you did with the two songs was very interesting.'

But when it came to choosing a coach, the wannabe star chose Danny. saying: 'I chose Danny because he's very similar to me.'
However, Max's success was bittersweet as his girlfriend wasn't so lucky following her audition.

After singing Miley Cyrus' The Climb, the brunette failed to persuade the coaches to press the buttons and was told she came across as being nervous.





But after Danny saw her, he was quick to say: 'I should have pushed the button,' why Tom told her: 'You need to own it.'

Twinnielee's boyfriend was more than understanding as she headed backstage, and as he hugged her, he whispered: 'I felt it.'

Another contestant who received no offers from the coaches was delivery driver Phil Poole.


The 27-year-old admitted that he had never done an audition in his life as he arrived with his proud nan in tow.

However, his cover of Train's hit Drops Of Jupiter failed to impress the famous four enough with Danny telling him it 'just wasn't enough.'

Sean Conlan was another singer who failed to make it through to the nest round despite the coaches saying they really liked his voice.

The 30-year-old, who enjoyed success in the boyband Five back in the nineties, sang a cover of Coldplay's Trouble and seemed optimistic about his future.

'I'm gutted, but it wasn't meant to be,' he said backstage as he hugged his family.
