Lorraine Kelly to take over Daybreak

Lorraine Kelly to take over Daybreak... but she won't set her alarm for six o'clock

Lorraine Kelly is said to be thrilled to be the new host of Daybreak.

But the ITV presenter isn't so keen on the unsocial hours required of the morning show hosts, and has refused to come on the air before seven o'clock.

The 52-year-old convinced producers to schedule another, yet to be announced host to man the sofa for the first hour of the programme, while Ms Kelly gets an extra hour's lie in.

On top of that, ITV and their star presenter have worked out a deal in which she will host the final hour of the show by herself, essentially turning it into her current show Lorraine.

The Daily Mirror alleges that current stand-in hosts Kate Garraway or Dan Lobb could fill the early hour slot.

There are several male journalists still angling to join Lorraine on the sofa.

As reported last month, Five News presenter Matt Barbet is one of the frontrunners.

The Mirror claims that former Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones and BBC Sports reporter Chris Hollins are also being considered for the role.

After a bad patch with the highly paid and highly publicised duo Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles, ITV are desperate to make this presenting partnership work.

Lorraine is currently off TV screens and recovering from emergency surgery following a horse riding accident last week.

She was attempting a jump when she fell from the horse, which then stamped on her thigh.

Paramedics were called to Chessington Equestrian Centre and found the star bleeding heavily.

She was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, south London, where doctors ruled she needed surgery for the wound.

Leaving hospital today she thanked her Twitter followers for all their kind wishes.

She said: 'Finally out of hospital. Thanks for all your lovely tweets - really means a lot to know you are thinking of me.

'It was a bad accident but could have been so much worse.'

She added: 'staff at gunning ward in St George hospital were brilliant. NHS at its finest. My thanks to all of them - kind , caring and professional.'
